What’s your favourite thing about surfing? My favourite thing would be the freedom, it is just about yourself and the waves.
Which surfer inspires you the most? Probably Rob Machado or David Rastovich because they just surf for the love of it.
When I was a child I wanted to be… An archaeologist and dig up dinosaurs.
Favourite wave? Every wave in Indo
Describe your last twelve months in three words… Lots of moving!
Where’s the most interesting place you have been? Prague.
What are your obsessions outside of surfing? Photography, travel/culture, learning new things and being a drummer but I can’t play the drums.
The best invention…The toothbrush, seriously imagine being born in the period where you have to use charcoal and tree roots to clean your teeth!
If I wasn’t doing this right now, I’d be… Studying the earth.
Before I die I want to….fulfil my dreams
My greatest achievement… learning to drive and then rolling my parents car and surviving.
My greatest fear… balloons
Not many people know this about me but… I drowned when I was 9 months old and had a collapsed lung for a year.
My most embarrassing moment would be… when I forgot to put my fins in my board and only realised when I started paddling.
The soundtrack to my life would be…Linkin Park at the start then something cruisy like a bit of Ben Harper now.
My philosophy is…Dream, believe, create, succeed
Anything else you’d like to include… There are no snakes in Hawaii!

Living out of a suitcase for the last three years, Rebecca Woods has had her flannelette PJs as security, making her feel closer to home. Growing up as the youngest of four sisters, Bec was in touch with her competitive side from a very early age. Even her first surfing experience uncovered her determination, seeing her to her feet on a foamie after watching older sister get to her knees on an earlier wave. But it wasn’t all perfection at that point, as Bec experienced her first dump sparking a teary run to mum on the beach and a return to surfing a few years later. Fast forward to 2008 and Rebecca Woods is one of the top female surfers. worldwide. Having a clear natural talent, and being a perfectionist at heart, she’s already making her mark on women’s surfing.
