Courtney Conlogue

2011 WCT Rookie

Southern California high school seniors often experience luxuries like off campus lunches, photography classes, senior trips, and bonus yearbook pages. For Courtney Conlogue, Class of 2010, her last year has been a bit different. While her fellow classmates planned for their futures – Courtney took on Surfing’s World Qualifying Tour, a string of contests held around the globe that decides which surfers will be apart of surfing’s elite and travel on the Women’s ASP World Championship Tour. It’s all she wanted, it’s been a goal of hers since she was ten.

Her first year trying and she’s done it. She qualified. She’ll begin her rookie year on the Tour in 2011.

“To finally get here, it’s a relief. Now it’s that next step,” says Courtney,  “I’m on the World Championship Tour. Now I have to put all that effort that I’ve worked for and actually showcase it all.”

This accomplishment alone is an impressive benchmark for any young contending athlete. What’s atypical to Courtney’s approach to the WQS this past year was how. She earned CT status between track & field practice, races, school studies, surfing, more training, and UFC boxing. She just doesn’t stop. “I love being on the move and not being stagnant,” says Courtney. She travels with her boxing gloves, her sketchbook and running shoes as well as her board bags, “I don’t want to ever lose me, because I’m surfing.” Courtney’s plan is to keep it fun and exciting.

Courtney’s ability to focus in the mix of a seemingly seamless schedule is as astounding as it seems exhausting.  Her capacity for hardcore physical training and drive is like few others before her.

“I’ll train for 6 hours a day in the water. You only get those 20 minutes to put on a show," she says. "I don't want lack of conditioning to be the thing that hinders me."

This first year on tour, she knows she has a lot to learn but with her mom, as Courtney refers to her, ‘my sherpa’ and google earth as her guide, Courtney has arrived and is ready to prove herself not only worthy but a World Title contender.

Courtney will be competing on both the WCT & WQS next year, a total of 16 events. Watch as our newest USA rookie surfer tackles her first year on the ASP World Championship Tour.
