Boat Story: Indo 2010 - Part 2
Beating the boys at Rottnest
Dad entered me in the WA open state round at Rottnest the week before the contest started. Rottnest is a beautiful little island of the coast of Perth that takes a 30 min ferry ride to get to. There are no cars on the island and it is a place that you go to relax. It has awesome snorkelling, waves and pristine beaches.

The night before the event, there was a meeting at the pub and the heat draw was on the table. I went over to check it and just out of interest checked the other heat draws to see who had come over. I was looking through the pro junior boys heat draw and in shock saw my name!! The first thing that I thought was dad why did you enter me in this I am probably going to get knocked out in my first heat. But I had the time to think about it and realised all of the positives. It would help my surfing heaps not just the skill aspect but also the mental side.
We got really lucky with the waves at Strickland Bay over the weekend. It was offshore everyday with a nice little swell that increased as the week went on. I was happy to make it through all of my heats to the final were I finished fourth. I felt sorry for the guys that I beat haha and they were probably really annoyed at me for entering. By the end they were all right and tried to laugh it off that they got beaten by a girl haha.
Peace out, Floss
